GameStop Hiring 15,000 Seasonal Workers

Are you at least 16? Do you spend hours every day in virtual combat?
You might be qualified to work at GameStop. The Grapevine-based video game chain says it expects to hire about 15,000 part-time seasonal workers for its 4,300 stores between now and Christmas Eve.
"These numbers are consistent with GameStop's seasonal hiring efforts in 2008 and 2007," the company said. The final quarter represented nearly 40 percent of GameStop's sales last year.
The recession has hurt GameStop, like other retailers, but its sales of used games typically hold up in slower times. Also, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony recently dropped the prices of their Wii, Xbox and PlayStation 3 game consoles, respectively.
Marissa Andrada, GameStop's senior vice president of human resources, said in a release that the retailer also expects to benefit from several game launches, including Call of Duty/Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II.
Applicants can pick up applications at GameStop stores.
"Training will be provided, but applicants should be knowledgeable about video games and video game equipment in order to fulfill their role as valued customer advisers," GameStop said.
